Beyond the Pages

I'm Kara, another contributor to the DigliosArmy Blog, and I as well have been doing a lot of research and brainstorming on Social Media in today's society and how we as artists are able to influence the media, and in turn, become influenced as well. Through a recent art project in our IB Art class, we were asked to use social media as an inspiration or a vessel to make some type of art. A lot of the kids posted videos of things they were doing or art projects that they have done and although I would like to be that technically gifted to spit out such greatness, realistically, it's not... well realistic. So that's why I've chosen to make this part of the blog be more of my project.

Researching social media and artists for this project made me somewhat annoyed because I would find all these great artists and websites and videos, but then I had no way to in turn physically paste them into my sketchbook. So want I really want is this blog to be the computer version of what my sketchbook would be. Look at other artists, comment on their work, post my own art, and even become a personal journal of my journey through the world as an artist. As I will be heading off to college in the coming months, this will also be a great way to daily vent any things that come to mind. I feel like sharing life experiences with you will be another creative way beyond the pages of my sketchbook to find out more about artists and what real people like you are doing in the art world.

Though this is only the first entry that I have posted, I hope to see what happens with this blog and where the art will take me, beyond the pages of the art I've known, only to discover what the world has to offer.

Hope you enjoy all that will be coming up in the future!

Is Social Media the next generation art?

Let me give you examples of what social media is and reference it to art...

Types of Social Media I encounter are:
-celebrity gossip sites
-news sites (comments section)
-facebook (pictures, notes, etc.)
-youtube
-any other place where people comment and interact about a particular subject

Social Media gives me a more holistic perspective about a subject and formulates my opinions on places and events.

One of the ways that Social Media has affected me is that it has caused me to be more aware of how to talk to people (I do not like to argue). Social Media, essentially, explores the psychology of the human mind.

Now, back to ART. Art can either be the subject matter for Social Media or it can be the actual media! Yes, people now edit each others artwork through the internet and create a collaborative idea. I will mention some of the websites that do this later in this post.

Everyone can remember a time when their parents were his or her main source of knowledge and influence. For me, while my parents contributed to most of my perceptions, my moving to different countries and places helped me interact with diverse groups of people (bringing a similar effect as Social Media) .

Now, much of Social Media is experienced through the web, but one thing that I have noticed is that people act differently on the internet than in real life. Could it be that people can reveal more about their mind through Social Media?

Learningtoloveyoumore.com
masterpiece 2.0
Man Bartlett
Everyonethatweknow.com
Nic Rad

These are some of the people/websites you can check out to experience some of Social Media Art.

Now for the artists out there or those who come in contact with social media:

Does social media affect how you work as an artist/ person? How?

How do you feel about Social Media? Is our modern culture really influenced by social media, and is art?

Originally, I was going to ask people on the internet and in social settings about ideas for my artwork, however, I feel like going directly to the Social Media setting such as this one will deliver the biggest impact on my art.

From the time I started this project, I made one painting already,

So, I have a blank canvas in front of me, and I will start to work on the piece that I mentioned I will do in this video of mine,

Are we the creators of our world?

Imagine being god, imagine that you created this world. The people are your children, the animals are your grand-children. Imagine that the sun is your lover, that the world is his/her present for you. Would you consider it art to look at the clouds that cover the sun and smile as you pretend to be in love? Or are you really in love with the world?

It is amazing how little the worries of people affect the nature of the world. In the end, the planet still revolves around the sun, the galaxy shines its stars and solar systems. Are our worries insignificant? Are we the artists of happiness if we have created this world? Whenever I look at the sky I realize that the image will stay in my mind forever and I could dream of possibilities through all my sorrow, and my happiness.

Moving on to food...

I dried sweet potatoes with lots of herbs and a little olive oil!! They taste so good!!

The recipe can be found here Sweet Potato Chips

I also ate some papaya, it is sooooooooo ripe!!! So good!!

And, I'm making onion bread, don't judge :)

Social Media + About Kristina + FOOD

Hello!!! :)

My name is Kristina, you can see some of my videos here...

http://www.youtube.com/user/DigliosArmy

be sure to check out the other videos, this is an ongoing project about art and social media. My friends and I are posting videos every day about our artwork and some of us are doing a blog as well (this is our blog and we will be posting something everyday)

So anyways... I should tell you more about myself,

I am a graduating senior who is taking an advanced art course in her school. My focus is primarily on nature and painting (these change as I develop new skills or get inspiration).

I love art!! It allows me to express my internal personality without having to explain it to others and confuse them :p

I also love cooking!! Mmmm, food!! But I am very healthy and eat as many raw fruits and vegetables as I can. I am a vegetarian that eats fish, but most of my intake is focused around fresh vegetables. I will try to post a new recipe or meal at every post.

I love Math!! This is going to be a long list :)... At this moment I am taking the most advanced math course in my school and am absolutely in love with it (we are learning homogeneous and first-order linear differential equations now).

I love Biology!! It's hard but so exciting, I think I want to major in it in college.

I love Music.. but anyone can relate to that!

I like writing, although I have only started to get the hang of it.

Now on to the fun stuff!!!

I came home from school today and had me some awesome Russian food: salted herring with onions!! I also ate the Milt, yummy... for those of you who don't know what that is... think of it as fish male genitalia. It's a delicacy!

Here are some pictures :D

The Milt is on the bottom, with the body in the middle and onions all around... I could even eat more but I'm not hungry.

The fish heads don't really have too much meat in them, and the brain doesn't taste like anything... but it's still not bad. It's not gross till you have tried it!! I grew up on this stuff...
This is Kombucha, or cultured tea. Again a Russian staple, but I don't feel like drinking it lately.. it is quite delicious however.
I blended equal parts frozen strawberries and kombucha. Then I added a little stevia. So good!! Tastes like cranberries!

COD LIVER... I know a lot of you might be grossed out by now, but this stuff is sensational! I fried sweet potatoes in the oil and it turned out so good. Yummy.. but it's very expensive here, I think it's cheaper in Russia.

Sooooo, I have a video of my artwork if you guys want to see it (I'm sorry for the length, I'll make it shorter next time),

Leave a comment or/and subscribe, the people in this blog have diverse interests and I'm sure some of them are to your liking :)

I would be glad to discuss anything!!

I am interested in what you guys think about the kind of food I posted up, would you ever eat this? Or about my artwork, what kinds of pieces would you guys like to see me do?

Here's a picture of me for reference by the way,
